Trip to Berlin

Berlin is the capital and largest city of Germany by both area and population. The city is well known for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife, contemporary arts and a very high quality of living. Berlin straddles the banks of the river Spree, which flows into the river Havel in the western borough of Spandau.

Berlin is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. Best time to visit Berlin is from may to September , temperatures tend to range from 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. We decided to visit Berlin on your Easter holiday’s , from 19th – 21st April.

To travel from Munich to Berlin, there are many options such as bus , train or flight. But for a cheap budget buses are always good. So we decided to go by Flix bus from Munich HBF to Berlin HBF. These buses are good, they have comfortable seats and toilets also. We started our journey at 1:15 pm and reached at 9:30 pm, it was approx 9 hours journey. Important thing to remember carry your food drinks with you because the buses do not stop at any place where you can get rid of your hunger.

Happy Journey Happy Faces

Berlin’s comprehensive public transport system is administered by BVG and consists of the U-Bahn, S-Bahn (Trams) and buses. Most efficient methods of transport are trams. We were four people so we took group ticket for a day which is valid for five people. All tram stations have ticket machines, tickets need to be validated once before or upon boarding the tram or bus.

It is always better to stay in the centre of city, nearby tram and bus stations. one can either stay in Hotels or hostels, depending on your own budget. we were in a Hotel, it was an ancient building. Breakfast was included, but although i didn’t like it because nothing was cooked except boiled eggs everything was readymade cold food.

There are many Places to visit in Berlin, We started with Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the original church was built in the 1890’s . It was badly damaged in a bombing raid in 1943. The damaged spire of the old church has been retained and its ground floor has been made into a memorial hall.

Second we visited Reichstag Building, is a historic edifice. It is the meeting place of the German parliament. To visit the Dome of the Reichstag Building one needs to register in advance. We were not aware of this so we could not enter the building.

Third we went to Brandenburg Gate, is an 18th century neoclassical monument in Berlin. It was built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel, which used to be capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg. it is one of the most attractive square at city.

Fourth we went for River Cruise “Historic city Cruise” it costs 15 euro per head. The hour long river cruise of Berlin’s city presents many major sights along the river Spree between the Reichstag and Nicholas’ Quarter. Audio guides Provide tour commentaries in German, one can ask them to provide commentary in other language such as English or French.

Fifth, we went to Alexanderplatz, is a large public Square. Its a cool place to shop, eat and feel happy. So we had our lunch at Alexanderplatz, food served was good both yummy and healthy. Fernsehtrum is a telvision tower near Alexanderplatz, it is the tallest structure in Germany. It includes an observation deck which costs 19 euro per head but we could not go there because of my husband.

Sixth, Unter den Linden stroll, just walk along the historic place. There is much to see along or near this iconic boulevard.

seventh, Checkpoint Charlie, it was the name given by the Western Allies to the best known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the cold war(1947 – 1991).

Eight, Berlin wall memorial, commemorates the division of Berlin by the Berlin Wall and the deaths that occurred there. It was created in 1998 by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal state of Berlin.

Night life in Berlin is progressive, diverse crowd , naughty bars and never ending parties. So First we had dinner and the went to a bar , which was a good place to drink and hangout with friends. We also visited Brandenburg Gate, at night it looks more beautiful.
